It would have been your birthday,
The sixteenth day of June.
I dream of what I would have seen—Your smile, your eyes, your soul.
Tiny feet wandering our apartment
Screams at night
Your tears becoming mine
I long to breathe your scent,
To hold your tiny hands,
The fragrance of innocence.
Someone I want to protect,
Someone I pray to know.
You never touched the world,
But You left your fingerprints
On my aching heart, forever,
Endlessly apart.
And a part of me died, too
After I had lost you.
So on this day in June,
I send my thoughts to you,
To a soul I never knew. But would die to do.
